Checks will be carried out on our flights at check-in and prior to boarding. At check-in, cabin baggage that exceeds the allowed limits must be checked in. Prior to boarding, cabin baggage that exceed the allowed limits will be collected and stored in the aircraft cargo compartment and excess baggage charge may become necessary if the combined weight or pieces with the bags already checked in exceeds your checked baggage allowance.
To facilitate security checks at the airport, as well as for the safety of our customers and cabin crew, please observe the guidelines on the weight and size of carry-on luggage. This will minimise the likelihood of injuries which could be caused by luggage falling from the overhead compartments due to excess stowage. Cabin baggage that exceeds the stipulated allowances will have to be checked in. It will also help ensure the aircraft cabin remains clutter-free, for easier movement by fellow passengers and the crew.
Singapore Airlines retain the sole discretion to determine, for purposes of your safety or the safety and comfort of other passengers, whether any item of your baggage will be permitted in the cabin or must be carried as checked baggage.
Checked baggage allowances are based on the weight or piece concept:
For journeys involving multiple airlines on a single ticket or on conjunction tickets, the baggage allowance policy is guided by International Air Transport Association (IATA) Resolution 302. The free baggage allowance is based on the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) [note: with effect 01 April 2015, the MSC will be the Marketing Carrier unless that carrier publishes a rule stipulating that it will be the Operating Carrier] or in the case of international itineraries involving USA and Canada, the first marketing carrier who will decide whether to apply its own policy, or the policy of the Most Significant Marketing Carrier on the international segment. Hence the baggage allowance shown on your ticket may differ from the baggage allowance accorded by Singapore Airlines, and we will apply the baggage allowance that is shown on the ticket.
As a Singapore Airlines’ PPS Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold member, you can enjoy additional baggage allowance when you travel on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. Star Alliance Gold members also enjoy extra baggage allowance when travelling on Singapore Airlines.
