– First Class/Business Class passengers – two pieces each

– Economy Class passengers – one piece each

– Each cabin baggage must not weigh more than 7 kg

– Infants – one bag with maximum dimension of 115 cm (45 inch), which may be carried as cabin baggage and one fully collapsible baby pushchair or stroller or carrying basket. The weight of the allowed items may not exceed 05 kg (11 lbs) in total

Cabin baggage exceeding the dimension and weight or the number allowed, must be checked as check-in baggage.

Allowed items

We recommend you take anything you may need on the flight with you, including medication and keys. All medication should have a professional pharmaceutical label on the container if you are transporting medication in your carry-on luggage. If you require a medical syringe, you must have the needle guard intact.

In addition to your carry-on baggage, passenger may bring any one of the following personal items as cabin baggage:

  • A handbag, pocket book or purse
  • A briefcase
  • An overcoat, wrap or blanket
  • Electronic equipment such as a laptop, tablet and camera
  • A small camera or a pair of binoculars
  • A reasonable amount of reading material for the flight
  • An infant carry cot
  • Food for infants and children for consumption in-flight
  • Fully collapsible baby stroller (on wide body aircraft only)
  • Walking stick/canes or crutches and/or braces/prosthetic devices, which the passenger is dependent on

Cabin baggage must be stowed underneath the seat in front of the passenger or in the overhead compartment. Please note that security items such as knives, nail clippers, blades, or any sharp and/or pointed objects must be removed from cabin baggage and packed in checked baggage. You must be able to activate any electronic devices at the security checkpoint. If you are unable to do so, you must pack these items in your checked baggage.

Effective 22 April 2015, Malaysia Airlines will replace its excess baggage fee structure of regional rates per blocks of 5kg, with zonal rates per blocks of 3kg for travel on all MH operated flights systemwide, both domestic and international. This revision shall also apply to passengers connecting on domestic routes between Sabah & Sarawak on MASwings operated flights.

All sports equipment, including golfing equipment, will be carried as part of the free checked baggage allowance, and will be subject to excess baggage charges if overweight.

Musical instruments

Malaysia Airlines is pleased to accept musical instruments (both electrical and non-electrical) for carriage as checked baggage.

  • Musical instruments must be securely packed.
  • The musical instrument and container are subject to the applicable oversized baggage charge.
  • Small musical instruments may be allowed as carry-on baggage, even if the item may not fit into the baggage-sizing unit due to its irregular shape.

While every care will be taken with your possessions, it is recommended that you purchase additional baggage insurance to cover loss or damage to these items.
